Issue
We work for the vulnerable children, by empowering them and providing them with the best quality education possible. At our residential centres, we ensure the overall responsibilities of every child in need of care and protection including hygiene, education, proper healthcare and overall growth.
Action
Working in Delhi for the last 14 years, TARA has been protecting children from vulnerability and abuse with a diverse set of programs: a. We prevent family separation: TARA Outreach Centre is a community-outreach program for a marginalized community in Saidulajab, South Delhi, India. We work at the community level to identify situations of abuse and mobilize family resources so they can find their own solutions. We also provide educational support to the children through 4 classes: nursery, bridge class, open class, and intensive class. b. We accommodate, as a measure of last resort, children whose life is at risk in their natural environment. The Judiciary orders these placements only when they are absolutely necessary. We run three Homes for “Children in Need of Care and Protection” registered by the Ministry of Woman and Child under the Juvenile and Justice Act, 2015. These 3 homes are: TARA Tots, TARA Boys, and TARA Girls. c. We equip the children to fly their own wings: our aftercare program TARA Big Birds enables young adults having grown up in TARA Homes to access autonomy. d. We have established a set of specific policies in compliance with the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015 and relevant governmental regulations (for e.g., child protection policy, hygiene policy, media policy, prevention of sexual harassment, code of conduct, accounting policy, etc.) and ensure that they are strictly adhered to by all our associates. Thetransverse service TARA Training Centre (TTC) operates across all programs to guarantee and train our staff to work as per the best standards of care.

Child Protection : Family Based programs and Residential Programs
The child protection systems in India face imminent threats, emphasizing the necessity of alternative measures beyond placement in institutional homes for safeguarding children's rights. Educational interventions within community settings offer viable support to both children and their families, mitigating the need for separation. Indian legislation mandates the regulation of children's home placements as part of educational initiatives in open environments. TARA collaborates closely with Indian authorities and upholds the principles outlined in the Universal Declaration of the Rights of the Child to ensure comprehensive protection for children.
