The Sri V R Deshpande Memorial Trust, in collaboration with Canara Bank, established an institute to address socio-economic challenges in rural North Read moreKarnataka. Focused on curbing rural-to-urban migration, it offers skill training programs aimed at fostering self-employment, entrepreneurship, and women's empowerment. Since its inception as Deshpande RUDSETI in July 2004, the institute has evolved, with Canara Bank’s involvement leading to its renaming as Canara Bank Deshpande RUDSETI. In 2012, recognition by the Ministry of Rural Development as an RSETI brought its current name, Canara Bank Deshpande RSETI. The institute plays a pivotal role in empowering rural youth and women by providing essential skills for economic independence. It envisions a future where individuals build sustainable livelihoods by utilizing their talents and fostering self-respect. Its initiatives include raising awareness, offering entrepreneurship training, and strengthening self-help groups, all aimed at promoting self-sufficiency and driving rural prosperity.

Impact

The Canara Bank Deshpande Rural Self Employment Training Institute has organized 924 programmes, training 25,293 candidates, of which 19,156 have settled into livelihoods, including 15,240 who are self-employed, with 6,586 achieving self-finance and 8,654 receiving bank-financed support.

  • Self-Employment Training Programmes

    The Self-Employment Training Institute empowers unemployed youth by providing essential skills and knowledge for sustainable livelihoods. Free training programmes nurture entrepreneurship and self-reliance, turning aspirations into successful ventures. With 64 diverse courses approved by the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India, training spans 1 to 6 weeks, utilizing local resources to create alternative career opportunities. Areas of focus include agriculture, manufacturing, services, entrepreneurship development, and bamboo craftsmanship.

  • Rural Development Activities

    CBD RSETI drives holistic rural development through initiatives that strengthen self-help groups, provide skill development, and promote entrepreneurship, particularly among women. Efforts focus on environmental sustainability, water conservation, and improved healthcare access, including free health camps. Farmers receive training in modern agricultural techniques while social animators are empowered to lead community-driven change. By integrating these efforts, the goal is to unlock human potential, foster self-sufficiency, and build resilient rural communities.
