The Mazumdar Saw Medical Foundation works majorly in the field of cancer treatment and research. They believe that medical research directly affects t Read morehe efficiency, accessibility, and affordability of medical treatment. They believe health care has many stakeholders like academia, doctors, hospitals, government, and technology. Every stakeholder needs to work in-sync to make healthcare approachable. They practice 'Translational Research' which is a methodology to include the results of medical research into innovative inventions, practices and policies and also utilizing the practical knowledge from the policies and practices to inform research. The Foundation believes that financial stability should not be a deciding factor to access health care, and that research and implementation can bring about innovations which can bridge this gap. The Mazumdar Shaw Medical Center (MSMC), a unit of Narayana Health, with the Mazumdar Shaw Center for Translational Research (MSCTR), Mazumdar Shaw Cancer Outreach Program (MSCOP) and Mazumdar Shaw Center for Affordable Technologies (MS-CAT) are the current 4 pillars of the Mazumdar Shaw Medical Foundation. A 5th pillar is also in progress, the Mazumdar Shaw International Medical Academy. The Mazumdar Shaw Cancer Outreach Program (MSCOP) reaches to 1000 patients in the month. These cancer patients struggle to make ends meet, hence cannot afford proper chemotherapy and sessions and healthy food during the treatment phase. MSMF ensures they get ample supply of bananas, eggs, almonds, and biscuits. It has also collaborated with various pharmaceutical companies to avail the drugs free of costs to the patients in need. Cancer treatment can go on for long durations, and if the patient is a child, they would lose out on a large part of their childhood. MSMF provides children with books, toys, and games. Also, under the outreach program, the foundation has been conducting Cancer Screening Programs in Urban and Rural Bangalore. The screenings are conducted for breast and oral cancer. Mazumdar Shaw Medical Foundation in association with Narayan Health launched a Rural Cancer Surveillance Program in the rural districts of Karnataka November 2013. The program includes creating awareness and conducting preliminary screening of neck and head cancer. In phase 1, work will start in three villages, namely, Atebele, Anekal, and Gigini in Karnataka. MSMF also keeps conducting a lot of talks and awareness campaigns. Recently, they conducted 'Hack the Paper' which is a movement to change the conversation around Science. It aims to bring forward the knowledge from papers, journals and labs so that people can include it in their daily conversations. On August 15, 2015, it organised a cancer awareness talk by the expert oncologist Dr Bhawna Sirohi for the residents of Lakeshore Homes, Kasavanahalli.

They arise from neuroepithelial tissue. One of the most malignant types of brain tumours, glioblastoma multiforme (grade IV astrocytoma, or GBM), is the main focus of the Neurooncology Group at MSCTR.
