Mitra Jyothi is a registered trust (under Indian Trust Act) located at Bangalore in the State of Karnataka and has been working for people with disabi Read morelity in general and visually impaired in particular for almost three decades (started in 1990). It is run under the able guidance of Ms. Madhu Singhal (National Awardee) who has accomplished many milestones not only in India but also abroad despite her own disability. Mitra Jyothi’s Mission is to assist visually impaired individuals lead independent and dignified lives through Education, Training, Counselling, Communication & Technology so as to integrate them into mainstream families and society at large.

Vision & Mission
VISION – We believe that all persons with disability have the potential to become independent and self-sufficient and given the right opportunities to achieve their goals, can play a useful role in the community. Mission - We assist people with disability to become independent by – making them aware of their rights and responsibilities, providing them with an enabling atmosphere through networking with other organizations and people, designing training programmes that teach them coping skills, supplementing educational needs, vocational training and job placements.

Braille Press Centre
The Braille Transcription Centre converts school text books/educational books/magazines/specific articles/selected items of interest into electronic format and prints it in Braille format. The Braille Transcription Centre also does tactile printing in colour and embossing visiting cards in Braille.

Independent Living Skills is the most fundamental hands-on programme at Mitra Jyothi that enables persons with visual disability to initiate self-reliance and instills self-confidence in them.

Talking Book Digital Library
The ERC supports the education needs of people with vision impairment by providing accessible reading material. “Accessible Reading Material” means books in the form of eText, ePub, DAISY (audio), mp3 and Braille formats.

2) Mitra Jyothi received the State Award (Karnataka) from the Directorate of Disabled Welfare and Senior Citizens on World Disability Day, 3rd December 2010. The award was handed over by Chief Minister of Karnataka.
3) DAISY Forum of India Quality Certification award for the quality of work provided by Mitra Jyothi through Talking Book Library for three consecutive years from 2012 till 2014.
