  • Since

    1998

Sahasra Deepika is a grassroots organization, founded on the belief that each and every one of us can make a difference in the life of a child. For 21 Read more years we have provided residential care and education to girls from destitute backgrounds on our 4 acre campus in Bangalore, India. Our Outreach Program has provided English tutoring to women to thousands of high school students in the community. Through outreach to women in the community and many other programs, we inform and elevate women and girls in India and around the world.

Programs

  • Sahasra Deepika Institute

Sahasra Deepika Institute offers a stable, nurturing environment and a well-rounded education for 65 girls in Bangalore, from kindergarten through 10th grade. Many of the girls in our care come from single-parent families, with most of their mothers employed as maids, laborers, or in the garment industry. Our four-acre campus features a residential facility for the girls, a library, a modern school, an organic garden, and a playground.

  • Women’s Empowerment Program

Sahasra Deepika’s Women’s Empowerment Program is dedicated to addressing a critical issue: the high dropout rate among girls in India. By bringing together teachers from government schools, community leaders, and educators in a collaborative forum, we aim to: gain a deeper understanding of the issue, raise awareness among teachers about their influential role as role models for girls, and encourage the development of innovative solutions.

Our second biennial Women’s Empowerment Seminar took place on November 19th, 2016, with over 30 teachers in attendance. The event featured distinguished guest speakers, including Justice Ram Mohan Reddy, former High Court Justice of Karnataka; Divya Narayanappa, District Child Protection Officer, Bangalore Urban District; Kathyayini Chamaraj, freelance journalist and Executive Trustee of CIVIC Bangalore; and advocate and journalist Anjali Ramanna.
