Sterilisation is a crucial measure in preventing suffering, prolonging female animals' lives, and reducing fights and injuries among males. It is internationally recognized as the most humane and effective approach to controlling the population and curbing the spread of diseases. In Mumbai, where millions of street dogs reside, Animals Matter to Me is actively involved in improving the welfare of stray and abandoned dogs by tackling overpopulation and preventing more dogs from becoming strays. It receives dogs and cats from the public, as well as through its dedicated animal rescue and volunteer teams. Additionally, the sterilisation programme has been extended to suburban Mumbai, which is home to a substantial population of around 10 lakh street dogs.
