Faith Foundation, a non-profit organization based in Shillong, Meghalaya, in North East India, has been committed to ensuring the safety of children a Read morend adolescents since 2013. Led by a passionate team of young women professionals from the Indigenous Khasi tribe, the foundation operates with a deep sense of purpose and values embodied in its name: FAITH—Faith in ourselves, Faith in our dreams, and Faith in the goodness of those we work with and serve. Faith Foundation's mission is to protect children from sexual abuse and exploitation, guided by their faith in themselves, their dreams, and the goodness of those with whom they work and partner.

Programs

  • Personal Safety Education Program (PSE)

    The Personal Safety Education (PSE) program is a school-based curriculum designed to teach children protective behaviors and empower them to play an active role in their own safety. Focused on preventing child sexual abuse, Faith Foundation has been implementing this program since 2013. In collaboration with the State Education Department, the foundation began piloting the program in government schools in 2018.

    The sessions are tailored for children aged 6 to 18, using age-appropriate language and information. Topics covered include child rights, gender, emotions, safe and unsafe situations, consent, personal boundaries, healthy and unhealthy relationships, grooming, online safety, and understanding their bodies. Life skills such as self-awareness, decision-making, communication, and problem-solving are also integrated into the sessions.

    Additionally, the program conducts sensitization sessions for teachers, school management, and parents.

  • Partners in Prevention

    The Faith Foundation works with other government and non-government organizations to raise awareness and sensitize the public about child sexual abuse and to provide PSE sessions to children they work with. Additionally, the organization organizes capacity building trainings and workshops under the Integrated Child Protection Scheme in collaboration with the State Child Protection Society of Meghalaya to train ICPS stakeholders in Meghalaya about children’s rights and how to prevent and respond to Child Sexual Abuse. Faith Foundation engages with educational institutions such as Martin Luther Christian University to build the capacity of their students and teachers in child rights issues. The organization closely collaborates with the Meghalaya State Commission for the Protection of Children’s Rights. Furthermore, the organization works with communities to raise awareness and address issues related to children.

Milestones & Track Record

Faith Foundation was registered on April 3, 2013, under the Meghalaya Societies Registration Act XII of 1983. They received initial support from Bosco Institute of Jorhat and additional funding from Action Northeast Trust for projects until 2020.
