CMI BSc (Honours) Programme
Chennai Mathematical Institute (CMI) offers a rigorous, six-semester BSc (Honours) programme available in two distinct tracks: Mathematics & Computer Science and Mathematics & Physics. Both paths share a strong core in advanced mathematics, with the former integrating comprehensive computer science curricula—covering algorithms, programming languages, and computability—and the latter emphasising theoretical physics courses such as mechanics, electrodynamics, optics, and quantum physics. Designed and taught by active researchers from CMI, IMSc, TIFR, ISI, IIT Madras, ENS Paris, and more, the programme nurtures analytical depth and research-ready thinking. Admission is via a national entrance examination, with exemptions for top performers in national Olympiads.
-
MSc Programmes
Chennai Mathematical Institute offers three distinct two‑year MSc programmes: Mathematics, Computer Science, and Data Science. Each programme spans four semesters and requires a minimum of 64 credits through a combination of core courses, electives, and a substantial project or thesis component. The Mathematics and Computer Science streams are fully residential, with hostel accommodation included. The Data Science programme, introduced in 2018, equips students with strong foundations in mathematics, statistics, computing, and predictive analytics. Admission is via a national entrance examination held annually in May, with generous scholarships and fellowships available based on merit and need.
