NewBeginnings Charitable Trust (NCT) is a humanitarian and gender-rights Indian NGO. NCT works directly with the ‘forgotten, vulnerable, and abused’ D Read morealits and Indigenous communities, focusing on children and women. NCT has been active in 40 remote and isolated villages in the Kurnool and Nandyal districts of Andhra Pradesh, India. Mission: To promote just, equitable, and sustainable rural communities through education, socioeconomic, health, and people-centric participatory approaches, focusing on children, adolescents, and women from the vulnerable poorest of poor communities. NewBeginnings Charitable Trust (NCT) is a registered, tax-exempted, non-profit, non-governmental organisation from Andhra Pradesh, India. NCT, being a grassroots-level NGO, works directly with the “forgotten, vulnerable, and abused” Dalits and Indigenous communities, focusing on children and women. NCT has been working in the rural villages of the Kurnool and Nandyal districts, which are part of the Rayalaseema Region, known for generational chronic droughts and cyclic poverty. In many villages, we are the only non-profit building the cornerstones for children’s education, women’s empowerment, financial stability, and health – the only non-profit bringing people together from all social classes to be part of local solutions. Every effort we make aims to make communities safe for children and women to grow and develop their potential in a right-based inclusive environment. NCT is active in remote and isolated villages with different programmes in the target districts. NCT implements need-based programmes such as livelihood support, skill development training, bridge schools for school dropouts and child labourers, health care, and literacy centres. Additionally, we organise various awareness campaigns and seminars focusing on children, adolescents, and women in 120 villages and 120 rural public schools. Our Approach Our programs are tailored to meet the needs of children, women, and the young from drought-prone and marginalised communities. The cyclic poverty passed on from generation to generation resulted in the communities' marginalisation and vulnerability. As a grassroots-level non-profit, we focus on the sustainable rights-based development of women and children. We achieve this goal by working directly with children and women - supporting the holistic development of children, women, and young people within the most vulnerable communities. NCT conducts project evaluation on completion of project implementation with the help of professional social workers who have vast knowledge and experience in the field of the project for evaluation. However, the six months project evaluation is conducted by NCT’s internal team. Other than this, NCT conducts a “Change-Impact Assessment” five years after a project is completed to assess and ensure that the project’s impacts are sustained beyond the project period and for team learning.
Issue
The primary and common issues we come across among the people: Drought is a fact here. (Between 2000-2020, the districts were in extreme droughts for 18 years). The western part of the Kurnool district and the eastern part of the Nandyal district have been known for severe droughts and poverty for generations. Child marriage. Human Trafficking/ sex workers A high rate of school dropouts, child labour, and daily wages is noticed among the indigenous and Dalits communities. Drug abuse among teenagers and youth in rural villages – addiction to Ganja, tobacco related-products, and alcohol. Unskilled youth. Being daily wage labourers resulted in marginalisation and contributes to cyclic poverty.
Action
